Rookery Cove: The Darkness by Stephanie Burke

Chained to a chair, Maylene argues with her abductor to let her go. Then two huge dogs’ batter down the office door silencing them. May hears heavy footsteps coming towards them, setting off a feeling of dread.

Manx came to Rookery Cove hundreds of years ago, searching for his true mate. Never finding her, he stays on as the Cove’s head of security. At present, someone has breached their computer system, stealing a recipe that could ruin man-kind. Irritated by the intrusion, Manx hunts down the thief. However, he’s not tickled about bringing home a brazen, chatty woman.

Part of a series, Rookery Cove: The Darkness is a fun romp with a sharp, agile plot. Manx cannot let May go since witnessing the carnage in disposing the crook. Upon their arrival on the Cove, May is awed by the splendor of Rookery Cove. Yet her subdued composure shatters when Manx stretches his disjointed jaw to let out a belch; causing her to faint. Waking in a strange bed, May worries that Manx is going to eat her. Oh, he intends to eat her, but the meal embodies pleasure that has her writhing with ecstasy, while starving for more.

Rookery Cove’s safety is still in jeopardy as the other computer hacker has yet to be discovered. Manx needs to hunt and destroy this beast, in between teaching May how a Master wins over his submissive.

Alluring while at the same time humorous, the characters maintain the fluid plot. Manx is the ultimate dominate, with his brawny build and commanding mannerism. May is spirited though incredibly focused in finding the perfect Master; so much that she worries about missing her Master’s appointment when held captive and threatened at gun point. This story was a thrilling read.
