Jennifer Marless entered a contest to win a ranch in Oklahoma back before she lost her husband to a carjacking. Now a year later she receives the call that she has won but now she doesn’t want it. There’s no way she is going to move her grieving son and herself to Oklahoma and try to run a ranch. So she goes out to see the ranch and find out how fast she can sell it, Aaron, however, wants to move there. When Jennifer gets to Oklahoma and meets the sexy ranch foreman, sparks fly and tempers flare. Is there any way they can find common ground, a city girl and a country boy?  

Jace Thompson has been foreman on the Split Rail Ranch for over ten years and has no intention of letting this city girl run him off of the ranch that has been his sanctuary. He’s determined to show Jennifer what the ranch has to offer for her and her son. If he can only get past her condescending attitude towards him. Can Jace trust Jennifer enough to tell her about his past and why he has to stay on the ranch?  

Jace and Jennifer have to find a way to repair and save the ranch and in the process they have to learn to trust and open up to each other. Jace has to swallow his pride and accept help from a woman. Jennifer needs to loosen up and learn that life throws changes and you have to be open to new experiences.  

Mending Fences was an enjoyable read. The characters were well matched in a wounded need to learn how to open way. I enjoyed the interaction between the three characters, and thought Aaron was a well-developed character. Star Ferris has written a wonderful story on second chances in life, learning to open up and trust to build a new life for all of the characters. This is a sweet romance that will take you away for a while.
